10 Life Lessons my father taught me...
On the occasion of Father's Day, penning down 10 key lessons which my father taught me..
1. The definition of money: Money isn’t what you think it is. Contrary to popular belief, money isn’t the answer to all your problems; what money enables is freedom and flexibility, both for you and for those around you. And that is it!
2. Want vs need: You’re going to need a job and a paycheck. But understand the difference between what you want and what you need. So, don’t lose sight of what you truly need from life.
3. Fear and failure: Don’t be afraid of failure. Those who are afraid to fail are also afraid to succeed. To accomplish anything, you must risk losing in order to capture what you want. The worst thing which will happen is that you will fail. But it is not end of the world and you will be loved for just being you.
4. Be kind and responsible: You will never know what another person’s experience has been. So always remember to be empathetic and compassionate. And do what you say you’ll do, do it right, and do it with excellence. When you don’t do something the right way, man up and own it. That means apologize immediately without excuses and pursue doing it the right way the next time.
5. Work Hard: Work is necessary for a productive life. Work teaches self-discipline. Work is not only healthy for the body but also healthy for the mind.
6. Always dream big: Dream big and chase what you want. Don’t allow anyone to tell you that your dreams are too big. There are times to be a realist, but not at the expense of passion.
7. Be brave: As a man, you will face challenging times; it happens to all of us. What defines you is how you respond to that adversity. It’s normal to be scared, just don’t stop, be yourself and keep moving forward.
8. Be You: Don’t allow anyone to define who you are. Don't compare yourself with anyone, there will always be someone cooler, taller, richer than you. So, don’t hand over the definition of who you are to anyone else.
9. Respect Women: Respect a woman emotionally by understanding that she has a very special way of thinking and feeling that are different from yours.
10. Be a Leader: You don't need a designation to do be a leader. Always lead by example and strive for the best — not only for yourself, but for everyone around you.
